When it comes to landscaping, there’s two main options to choose from: soft landscaping and hard landscaping. But what exactly is the difference? And which one is better suited for you. Established in 2016, by landscape architect Andrew McLellan, VistaLandCare has grown into a full-service landscape business working across residential and commercial projects in the UK.

Here at VLC, we can help with both hard and soft landscaping, but first let’s find out what each one actually is…

Soft Landscaping

From trees and shrubs to mulch and plants, these living elements help to make up just part of your soft landscaping materials. As per the name, this is a softer more changeable, approach to landscaping – think ponds and succulents – where you (or the gardener) uses vegetative materials to help improve the design of a landscape.
Although not easy, there’s a number of different ways ‘softscaping’ can make in impact in your outdoor space without too much heavy bulk. If you need a hand deciding if soft landscaping is for you and your garden, and how to go about it in the most effective way, contact us for more information. We can also create a plan for you, once given your requirements.

Hard Landscaping

Now, hardscape is pretty much what it says on the tin, its ‘harder’ materials used to stand the test of time – think concrete driveways and stone patios. Hard landscaping may play a bigger part in your landscaping journey, especially if you’re thinking of ways you can beat the everchanging weather – it’s also a good way to bring the indoors out a little bit, especially if you want to have space in your garden for entertaining, a garden can be an extra room after all.

If you want to build your landscape around water, hardscaping may be your best bet so to ensure there won’t be any water damage over time. Its durable and long-lasting, and while it may not be as natural as softscaping, it’ll still play a big part.

Which landscaping option you go for is dependent on your requirements, space, and overall taste. This is something we can help with, so do contact us for more information and advice. Call Andrew NOW on 07906 094903 or email [email protected]
